Who am I when I’m free and why does it even matter? This is the question that has spurred me on for years now. If you’ve ever wondered why there is a gap between who you are and who you were meant to be, join me on the journey.
Episode 26: The Path to Attunement
In today’s episode I lead you through the second step in Immanuel Journaling, an exercise that helps to improve our awareness that Jesus is glad to be with us in all of our emotions. Together we’ll explore what makes this practice such a helpful path toward attunement and finding peace from difficult emotions.

Episode 25: Two Steps to Connnection
Today I introduce you to the first step of Immanuel Journaling, called interactive gratitude. Next week I’ll share the final steps of what has become a very meaningful practice for me. What I have come to understand through Immanuel Journaling is that gratitude quite literally opens the relational circuits in my brain, moving me from a difficult emotion to a place of openhearted connection. Let’s explore it together.

Episode 24: Name It to Tame It
When difficult emotions arise, we all have ways of coping. Often we try to push our emotions down – to our peril – usually leading to simply being stuck in the emotion. What if instead of ignoring our emotions, we paid attention to them with Jesus? In this episode, I share a day in my life, walking through a difficult emotion and the practices that I am learning to engage that help create a pathway back to joy.

Episode 23: He Sings Over Me
Is it really possible that God feels good things about us? Why is it so much easier to believe that He is disappointed in us than that He delights in simply being in our presence? In this episode I share a story from my 18th birthday that God used recently to give me a glimpse of how He sees me.

Episode 22: Where Joy and Sorrow Meet
In a world that tries to tie up hard things with a pretty bow, how do we embrace joy while resisting easy answers to suffering? In this story of a tender moment in the middle of tragedy, I explore the possibility that joy and sorrow can each make space for the other, if we will allow them.

Episode 21: Your Brain on Joy
“Our brains need fuel to run properly” Michel Hendricks writes in The Other Half of Church. “The fuel that our brains were intended to run on is joy.” But most of us have a default emotion that is not joy and find it easier to get stuck in difficult emotions. The good news, however, is that we can reset our default emotion to joy with practice. In today’s episode, I walk you through an exercise that was meaningful to me to get you started.

What would it be like to see the face of God? This question stirred up a sweet encounter one morning that shifted my heart in a surprising and deeply meaningful way. It’s a question that might do the same for you if you allow it.

Episode 19: How to Re-Center a Spinning Soul
In today’s episode I share the story of a moment last month that left me in tears – partially out of sadness, partially out of shame, but mostly out of a soul that needed to be tended. What happened next reminded me of one of my soul’s most vital needs in these days of distraction.

Episode 18: Rhythms of Revolution
If you know me, it’s likely you know about pumpkin chip cookies. They are a family legacy and a lifeline on days filled with unknowns and learning curves, like the first day of school. The process of making them reminds me that the revolutionary life is a series of quiet, ordinary rhythms tethering me to the One who makes me whole.
